When my kids went to public school in Japan, the melody which played over the PA system was Edvard Grieg's Varen. In addition, the kids clean the school at the end of the day. Vandalism is virtually nil.

Freshmen at a private high school, here in Northern NJ, all complain because of the classical music they heard at their school. After a while they would hum along, and were proudwhen they could name the different pieces. They also began to enjoy the uniform look -- not uniforms as such, but pants, shirts and ties for by and skirts, or dresses for the girls.

My own kids - (now grown with families of their own), all want the music they heard while they were growing up, for their own kids to hear.
