Jane Pauley to Leave NBC After 27 Years

NEW YORK, Feb 20, 2003 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Jane Pauley, the co-anchor of "Dateline NBC," will be leaving NBC in June after 27 years with the network.

Her resignation was announced on Thursday on NBC's "Today" show, which she had anchored for 13 years before moving to Dateline.

Pauley decided not to renew her contract, opting instead to begin the next phase of her career, said Ann Curry, a co-anchor on the "Today" show.

The decision to leave the network was not an easy decision for Pauley but "she felt the urge to try new things," Curry said.

Details were not disclosed about Pauley's plans. A call to Pauley's office at NBC was not answered early Thursday.

Bob Wright, the chairman of NBC, called Pauley "a pioneer who has been synonymous with NBC for nearly 30 years," Curry said.

Lemme guess...a new talk show with a coffee table & sofa, discussing women's issues and "world events" from a female perspective?

This is industry code for "The network gave her the boot because she's too old."

"Out!, Out!, D*mned [spot, cellulite, baggier eyes, etc.,]"

I ween, the aged networks are just as ancient as "I Ween" and they must cast the "dying wood" aside!!

I was fortunate enough to sit across the aisle from her on a plane about 7 or 8 years ago. A very attractive and classy woman indeed. Replacing her with Perky was enough to make me switch to Fox News (if I'm watching the tube at all).

My favorite Jane Pauley factoid: Her name is Margaret Jane Pauley. And she's married to Garry Trudeau. So she could be called Margaret Jane Pauley Trudeau. Or Margaret Trudeau for short. Now where are the Rolling Stones?

I would take Jane over that that horrible Couric woman any day of the week. She's a lovely gal.

And now for something entirely different on MSNBC...

Mr. Donohue...your replacement is here.

While I don't share you enthusiasm about her or her Doonesbury hubby, here's a photo anyway . . .

If I were forced to watch one or the other, I would pick Pauley. She's not nasty like Couric but she's still an enemy to this country as are most liberal/socialist/communist news people. So, I say good riddance!

Now if only Trudeau would retire his unfunny comic strip and move to Patagonia with his wife.

Ahh, thanks for the pic!

Her choice of husband is truly regrettable. And, his comic is just plain awful, not even fit to line a birdcage. I's a wonder that the newspapers still pay him for his syndication.

I agree about the husband. Never thought the strip was even remotely funny, either.

Either that, or it's industry spin for "We reached the salary cap and we sacrificed her in order to pay for Katie Couric's contract."
