My bank used to have a wooden penis outside. Hurricane Hugo knocked down several trees when it came through. Several thousand trees were knocked down and had to be cut up and taken away. Many stumps were left but most were removed later. It looked like someone got really creative with chain saw and make a 2 foot sculpture of a penis from a stump. It was there for at least a couple of months. Then one day it was gone. I wanted to ask my bank if that was a warning about the penalty for early withdrawl. But I kept it to myself. I did leave with the relief that I was sure lucky it wasn't at my branch.

Many women and men, including myself, are the victims
Amy is a man?
The penis sculpture was not an official Harvard installation, and the men who put it up had no permission to do so. It was perfectly within my rights to take down this object which was incredibly offensive to me.
I guess they don't teach them to think at Harvard. Just because A doesn't have permission to do X doesn't confer on B the right to undo X.
The unwanted image of an erect penis is an implied threat; it means that we, as women, must be subject to erect penises whether we like it or not.
Appropriate, I guess, that an ice penis resonated so for her.

These men felt that it was their right to build this pornographic sculpture whose only purpose could be to assert male dominance. We were fine until we got to the "my interpretation is the only correct one." Sorry, Amy, but I don't think that sculpture, whatever it was intended to symbolize, was meant to assert male dominance by its sculptor or interpreted that way by the vast majority of viewers.
I'm thinking, though, that with young Amy's attitude she is in little danger of an overaquaintance with the offending appendage.

And if this girl had been a professed Christian you'd be applauding her.

Brilliant analysis. I didn't have to read any further!
They couldn't just say "we did it 'cause it was tasteless", they have to make it a political manifesto. I am amazed that the 'university' didn't send raod cleanup services over to remove the lumber though.

It actually sounded good, what they did, until I read the reasons why...an erect, inanimate penis sculpture threatens no one unless it is poorly situated (that is, it could fall and hurt somebody). I would support dismantling because it is obscene, however.

I wonder what she and her ilk thought of poor Paula Jones."Ehhhh, she's just a worthless trailer tramp who tried to bring down our president!"

No one should have to be subjected to an erect penis without his or her express permission or consent. ROFLMAO
