There is a policy of at the White House..

You know TL..sometimes it is necessary to risk and take hard stands..The president needs to do that now. If he does what is right he will be reelected , if he keeps dodging and weaving to keep on good terms with eveyone he will loose

AMC Chairman to Discuss Muslim Community’s Concerns with the FBI Chief

For Immediate Release

WASHINGTON, DC, February 13, 2003: The FBI Director has invited
leaders of major Muslim and Arab organizations to address the issues
“regarding the FBI response to terrorist threats and backlash hate crimes”
against the members of the American Muslim community. AMC Chairman of the
Board Dr. Yahya Mossa Basha has been invited to the meeting.

“American Muslims are fearful of backlash, discrimination, and hate
crimes against them and against other American minorities, including new
immigrants and people with dark complexion as the levels of threats are
raised,” said Dr. Yahya Basha, Chairman of the Board of Directors. The
current difficult climate is giving rise to hate crimes, abuse, and
mistreatment of the community members, he added.

The American Muslim Council is nation’s oldest Muslim political
organization. It was established in 1990 to promote Muslim participation in
mainstream political arena. It also works to ensure Muslims’ involvement
in public dialogue on our nation’s socio-cultural and religious and
political issues.

Unfortunately, many of the leaders present hadn't unambiguously rejected it. To the president's left sat Dr. Yahya Basha, president of the American Muslim Council, an organization whose leaders have repeatedly called Hamas "freedom fighters." Also in attendance was Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, who on the afternoon of September 11 told a Los Angeles public radio audience that "we should put the State of Israel on the suspect list." And sitting right next to President Bush was Muzammil Siddiqi, president of the Islamic Society of North America, who last fall told a Washington crowd chanting pro-Hezbollah slogans, "America has to learn if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come." Days later, after a conservative activist confronted Karl Rove with dossiers about some of Bush's new friends, Rove replied, according to the activist, "I wish I had known before the event took place."
