JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A Johnston County school bus driver has been suspended with pay as the sheriff's office and school officials investigate a complaint filed by two parents.
The parents claim bus driver Wanda Forest used poor judgment and put their children's lives at risk when they said the children were told to jump from the school bus while it was still moving Friday afternoon.

They neglected to mention, I see, that the kids were all students at 'Falling Bob's Stunt Schools for Children'...

When I was kid (1974?) a flood washed out a bridge between my house and the school, causing the bus to take an 8 mile detour, and finish the second half of its run backwards. That is after the detour the first kids dropped of were those who had previously been the last dropped off. This made the kids who lived near the bridge on the side of the river away from the school get home about an hour later than they werte used to.
But only the those who had not made it to highschool. The bus driver would pull up to the washed out bridge and let the highschool kids off so that they could cross the river by walking over the railroad trestle.
A bus driver who did that today would be indicted, but it seemed perfectly natural at the time.

I think I can recall G.I. Joe sneaking into my little sister's room and comandeering the local school bus and making the kids jump against their will...

Isn't it strange the everyday things we did then that are considered negligence today?
My sister is converting her concrete floor basement to a playroom. I'm amazed at all the consideration being put into the foor cover (for protecting the kids from falls). I grew up with concrete floors and the requisite pump knots. I'm not saying it's bad. Just an observation.
Of course, I do shudder when I think of some of the things we did and survived.

Is this a poor county in NC?
To: Cultural Jihad
Actually, Johnston County is the fastest growing county in NC. Raleigh is located in Wake County just north of Johnston County. Johnston County, on the whole, is still a relatively "rural" county but the northern end has become an outlying suburb of Raleigh. I'll have to check and see just where in the county this took place.

RIGHT CONCLUSION: This woman used extremely poor judgement, especially when dealing with kindergartners. She should be fired so that she can look for a job where she is not required to think.
LEFT CONCLUSION: Buses are in disrepair due to budget shortfalls and taxes must be raised to protect our children. Bus drivers need a union to protect them from those who would hold them accountable.

Thanks! I was wondering because of the allegation that the bus had mechanical problems.

Hatteras, if you still have the bus and Little People that go w/that box...the world is your oyster. Retro Fisher Price stuff (particularly the wooden based Little People) is hot on eBay. Your box box even looks mint...
