Schumer criticizes FBI anti-terror efforts

(AP) Senator Charles Schumer said the FBI hasn't done enough to overhaul and expand its anti-terrorism analysis effort.

Yesterday was ten years to the day since terrorists detonated a bomb inside a World Trade Center parking garage, killing six people. Schumer used the occasion to write to FBI Director Robert Mueller complaining that "very little has been done" to upgrade data analysis at the agency.

An FBI official countered that by the end of the 2004 budget year, the bureau's analytical staff will have quadrupled in size since the September 11th terror attack.

Schumer said the FBI must improve its mode of analysis, increase its number of analysts and improve their overall quality.

FBI Assistant Director Cassandra Chandler said the agency strongly disagrees with Schumer's assessment of the FBI's analytical capabilities.

The timing is obviously intended to divert attention from the Shaihk Mohammed capture. Can't have the current administration demonstrating success. Of course every news source in the world will quote this idiot.

Schumer said the FBI must improve its mode of analysis, increase its number of analysts and improve their overall quality.

And he further said that the only way to be utterly safe from terrorism was to completely disarm every law abiding citizen in the US. Schumer dreams of the day, fast approaching, of a USA where only the military, the police and other criminals are armed.

What are the odds we can convince Schumer to be a human shield in Iraq?

This story is from FEBRUARY 27.

That was last Thursday. The capture was Saturday.

Too bad for Chuck the Schmuck. His complaint has been rendered irrelevant.

Chuckie must be taking over little Tommy Daschle's role of Official Mouthpiece of Democrat Idiocy. All these recent Hamas busts...and Chuckie's suddenly dissatisfied with FBI efforts. What was Chuckie doing when Bill Clinton was tying up and gutting the FBI??

From Sep 2001...

Senators sought to be perceived as anguishing over the need to create a new oversight mechanism to make doubly sure that all FBI agents obey the law. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) announced a bill to create a “blue-ribbon commission to conduct a top-to-bottom review” of the FBI.

Their press release noted that the commission would “be made up of top law-enforcement experts.” Hatch gushed that the FBI is “one of the finest law-enforcement agencies in the world” and Schumer hailed the FBI as “the premier law-enforcement agency in the world.”

Schumer added, “Sometimes you owe it to a friend to look him in the eye and tell him the hard truth” — i.e., the FBI has made some mistakes in recent years.

It is comical to have Schumer and Hatch in the forefront of FBI “reform” — since they were two of the biggest FBI apologists. Hatch worked diligently to deter the valiant efforts of Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) to conduct congressional hearings on Ruby Ridge. During a live interview on the G. Gordon Liddy show, Hatch even publicly praised FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi, who killed Vicki Weaver as she stood in her cabin door holding her baby, as a “great American.”

Schumer was the Clinton administration’s point man during the House hearings on Waco in the summer of 1995. He continually derided and sneered at any suggestion that the FBI had done anything less than laudatory during its siege and final assault on the Branch Davidians. (During the recent hearing, Schumer congratulated Danforth for doing a great job with his Waco investigation.)

As an NYC resident, I can't wait until we can replace Chuckie -- However it really would not surprise me if this was a valid complaint. The FBI has it's priorities all screwed up and frankly, I don't think they are up to the job. Time and time again they have proven themselfs to be a headline grabbing bunch of egotists that are not very effective.

The FBI is so arrogant and lame in NYC that the NYPD had to create their own intelligence and anti-terrorism task force without the FBI. They don't even know what the word cooperation means.

BTW, the big arrest this past weekend was done by the CIA. There might be FBI agents in Pakistan, but it was a CIA operation that netted Khalid:

The stunning arrest of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed by Pakistani intelligence and CIA agents began with a near miss last month in a dusty border town and became a feverish chase fueled by communications intercepts and suspects' interrogations, security officials said Sunday.
