Question
Imus in the Morning
Posted on 03/05/2003 7:05:58 AM PST by GOP_Proud
I was surfing this morning and came across a guy on Don Imus that he called Jack. He claimed to be a former Green Beret helping the Northern Alliance in Afganistan. They talked a little about a book by Robin Moore (the author of "The Green Berets") that Jack contended was very true. Facinating interview, if true. Did someone see this that can verify who this guy was and is his story true?

Sorry, I quit Imus cold-turkey a few years ago...could no longer stomach his ego being first prioity all the time.

I'm a big fan of Fox and Friends but I will surf the "all news" channels during commercials. That's how I caught this and I'd really like to know how crdible this guy is. It was, IMO, a compelling story... if true. That's the part I don't know. Like another poster said, this guy is new to me and I watch and read a lot.

Did you hear the entire segment? If that guy was credible, then the U.S. has no business going to war with Iraq. And all of Bush's statements about "promoting freedom and democracy in the Middle East" are utter bullsh!t. And the "Euro-weenies" who are opposed to war with Iraq are right on target.

I didn't see the whole nterview. As I said, I was surfing and caught only a part of it. If you saw the entire interview, can you tell me what he said that caused your opinion? Details.

It was discussed in brief
here. Nobody was prepared for what a great interview it was. If you have a chance to listen to this guy, do it. You won't be disappointed.

You should probably explain what they guy said first before making statements like that.

He said the U.S. is going to be fighting another war in Afghanistan someday, because we've already turned our backs on Karzai and have lost interest in doing what is needed to get his government in order.
Friends of mine with contacts in different parts of the world tell me that the impression we have of the French and Germans is a bit inaccurate. They're aren't opposed to the war on principle, but because they know the U.S. by its very nature usually does a half-@ssed job when it comes to these things.
I didn't necessarily agree with this assessment, but after hearing what that guy had to say about Afghanistan I'm starting to wonder.

Minus 5 points for you on today's spelling test.

I highly doubt that we've turned out back on Karzai. He was here last week and thanked the American people and the President. The President reiterated his support for Afghanistan. Besides, if we had turned our backs on Afghanistan, Karzai would be dead and the Taliban would be back in control.
I haven't seen any of that happen. Have you?

Jack Idema ?? or Keith Idema?
To: rintense
Sorry for the confusion -- I was simply explaining what that guy said in the interview this morning.
IF he was "credible" (in the words of the post I was originally responding to), then we certainly have reason to be concerned.
I think he was specifically referring to the fact that depite the President's unwavering support for Afghanistan, Congress has indicated that it won't provide the level of funding for Afghanistan that the President had asked for.
Which leads back to my long-standing comments about making any kind of plans in a place like the Middle East. It was only a few months after 9/11 before it was determined that the the most important issue in New York City was passing a ban on smoking in bars and restaurants.
We generally don't have an attention span long enough to make plans for anything that lasts longer than a half-hour news broadcast.
To: Alberta's Child
Yes, I watched the entire interview. A tough green beret, who IMHO ~~ said nothing, to lead me to be against the war.

Jack Idema...at least that's the name the MSNBC website used.
