I believe this was written by Abraham Lincoln.

'Ten Cannots'

You cannot bring about prosperity discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's initiative.
You cannot really help men by having the government tax them to do for them what they can and should do for themselves.

FOUR POINTS OF THE COMPASS: RESTORING AMERICA'S SENSE OF DIRECTION, By Balint Vazsonyi. You might want to check out his archives. He writes clearly and with such love for America....how can a liberal be annoyed by such goodness? (^;

What a wonderful link! Powerful stuff! - Thank you! I'll have to look for his books. Passed on this essay to others.

You know, some of the people who cherish what America is and stands for were not born here. They have the perspective of looking from the outside in I guess. Too many Americans take what they have for granted.

"You don't know what you got til it's gone, take paradise and put up a damned socialist government"
Take that Joni Mitchell! (I admit I don't know what her politics are. Probably leftist, maybe with her intelligence she has seen the light!)
