An Iraqi defector has told Sky News that Saddam Hussein will use chemical weapons if the country is invaded.

In an exclusive interview, the man said the use of such weapons against British and US soldiers was "100% guaranteed".

The 26-year-old soldier, who is an officer, defected 10 days ago near the city of Sulaymaniyah in Northern Iraq.

He is being guarded in a safe house and is said to have provided valuable intelligence information to authorities.

"A chemical attack is guaranteed," he warned.

"We have been fully provided with complete protection gear, gas masks, first aid kit, injections."

In the 1991 war, Saddam Hussein deployed his chemical weapons but they were not used.

Reports suggest he is planning to use pilotless drone planes to spray British and US troops with anthrax and sarin gas if they advance towards Baghdad.

"We are sure about the chemical bombardment," said the defector, whose identity is being protected.

"In the last stage, he will use it as a last resort."

The defector was part of Saddam's crack Republican Guard and has emphasised its role in ensuring the loyalty of other troops.

The privileged soldiers had their own bunkers for protection during air raids in the Gulf War.

"When it is time for war we are fully prepared to fight into the ground. If we don't fight hard, they will execute us," he said.

He said Baghdad was full of such loyal troops and special forces and the city would see heavy fighting.

"In Baghdad there will be a lot of killing," he added.

The "crack" Republican Guard is what you see when they're bowing to Allah or running for the hills. When our ground forces engaged their divisions in the Gulf War, they were chopped to pieces.

This reminds me of something Nancy Pelosi said a few months ago. "We shouldent invade Iraq because there no evedience they have wmd." A few sentences later she says, "We shouldent invade Iraq because they might use WMD on our troops." hahahahaha

If they do use these weapons on our troops then we make the sun rise on him in the west.

This should surprise noone who stops to think about the implications. We have put Hussein and Iraq into a position where they have nothing to lose. It only makes sense that he would use his WMD on American troops and/or Israel.

i am sure that if the military, ours, considers drone aircraft, that there is a contingency for bombarding it with electronic pulses to warrant it unresponsive and perhaps uncontrollable and as dangerous to their side as ours...

would be cool if we could use their own WMD against them and then clean up the area later...

We have put Saddam in a position where his generals that make the decision to use WMD have everything to lose if the try it.

This warning concurs with my theory that the Iraqi scorched earth policy will leave us as the parriah of the world. Knowing the communist nations, frogs, germans, etc. and our wonderful media, when our troops reach Baghdad and discover multiple outbreaks of Anthrax, smallpox, the plague and other various disease, the media and hollyweirds will play every fruitcake that says "none of this would have happened if the US didn't invade". You can forsee this disaster coming. Hopefully Iraq will launch checmical weapons against Israel, so we will not have to invade Baghdad and instead set up a 30 mile perimeter with radiation warning signs.
