Saundra, I know you were very loyal to this guy and worked hard for him. What's the word in Fresno about this?

The title is misleading. He is a former Republican Assemblyman, who is alleged to be involved with CORRUPT DEMOCRATS.

"Fresno's Mike Briggs has been collecting an $8,250-a-month public paycheck since Dec. 1 from the Legislature as a horse racing consultant to Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, D-Culver City..."

This article should be targeted at removing the Democratic Assembly Speaker on charges of corruption. The fact that he is being aided and abetted by a FORMER Republican Assemblyman is of no consequence. This is just another case of the liberal McClatchy newspapers' liberal bias, something that we in Raleigh, NC are accustomed to.

I read the title and thought the same thing. Media bias.. ummm? GOP is the first word.. why not

" Wesson hires former GOP lawmaker as consultant " .. I wouldn't turn down 8K a month myself if it was legit, so we need to let this air out a bit.

BTW, I appended the entry in parens from the byline on the original article to make the mud as clear as I could. ;-)

Not just Wesson and Burton and Davis need removing, I am for removing all the demRats in the state senate and the house, myself.

"A former Republican assemblyman who delivered key state budget votes for Democrats the last two years has surfaced as a paid horse racing consultant to the Assembly's top Democrat."

So he was one of the turncoat Republicans that voted for the Democrat budgets. Maybe this story will help convince current Republican legislators to not vote for current and future Democrat budgets without significant sageguards for taxpayers.

It may not matter in the future since there are at least two initiatives in the works to remove legislative influence from the minority in the California legislature. One of these initiatives will be on the 2004 ballot.

As you know the power to influence educational funding was recently denied to the minority and transporation is the next target. One initiative will even attempt to reduce this influence on all funding. Both measures are cloaked in a long overdue reform of the legislative process and hype the amelioration of legislative gridlock, a popular theme nationwide.

The average citizen does not understand the dangers of the tyranny of the majority and these initiatives will probably widely appeal to the mob.

Thanks for posting this, first of all. Well, Briggs is not an elected official anymore. Number One. Next, the Republicans are at it again - getting in line to stab another Republican in the back. Mike Briggs, to his credit, is refusing to talk to the media about this. He has been burned one too many times. I will say this - he may run for County Board of Supervisors, in which case it will look good for him that he can work with Democrats as Bd of Supv is non partisan. Finally, Mike Briggs has three adorable young kids and a wonderful wife. He's a sweetheart of a man. Heart of gold. I am SICK TO MY STOMACH of Republicans devouring their own. Mike has been pretty much destroyed politically - for now - and I don't see the purpose of Republicans kicking him while he's down. I just don't get it. If Mike decides to run for Bd of Supvs you better believe I'll be his biggest fan. Meanwhile, give the guy a break, won't you guys? For victory & freedom!!!

Don't believe media spin. Mike Briggs is a conservative Republican and he's not at all as he's being painted by the media. He's pro life, pro 2nd Amendment, pro agriculture. When he voted for the budget, he received hefty tax cuts for the ag industry. And he's not stupid, either. Mike Briggs is going to bounce back; you just wait and see, and I'll be there to support him 100%. For victory & freedom!!!

Mike Briggs is a hero to me. He's a thoughtful, brilliant, sweet, powerful guy. One citicism - HE'S TOO NICE! He has good reasons for doing what he does but he doesn't know how to toot his own horn very well. That's where people like me come in. Go, Briggs!!!!!!!! For victory & freedom!!!
