Hardly.
Grenada was pre-emptive.
Panama was pre-emptive.
Mexican War was arguably pre-emptive.

President John F. Kennedy (20 January 1963): "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

Never would have guessed. LOL. So she's notorious for this level of nonsense. Poor readers...

Susan Page in an article for USA TODAY writes "It would be the first preventive war in U.S. history, the first time the nation has attacked without being struck first. Uhhhhh............Desert Storm?

Sure! Consider it done! LOL...
I'd drop dead of a heart attack if CBSABCNBCCNN ever gave conservatives 1/2 of an even break.

What about Kosovo? I don't seem to remember when they attacked us! Oh, I forgot, that was under Clinton. Sorry!

Liberals never admit they are wrong. They merely rationalize their errors, misquote, misstate, rewrite history and reassert their case. The promotion of anti-americanism by our liberal and dishonest press serves as a reminder to all of us that this "democracy" is still an experiment and cannot be taken for granted.

the first time the nation has attacked without being struck first. Did North Korea attack the U.S.? Did North Vietnam? Grenada? Panama? Haiti? Somalia?
To: cynicom
Bay of Pigs?
Don't be obtuse. Either Kennedy would have backed his play, and bullets would have flown, or he would have backed down like the French. Either way, it was a pre-emptive confrontation. Just like what they're trying to call it this time.
As noted by other posts, we have the cease fire agreements broken by Iraq to make this confrontation even more legitimate

I suppose Germany, North Korea and North Vietnam all attacked us first????? While I will agree the aggression of Germany, North Korea and North Vietnam was much easier to see....what we must understand (and the USA Today writer does not), whether aggression is from direct invasion against allies and/or from "behind the scenes support and/or build up of WMDs by Iraq"...it is still aggression against the United States interests. What a fool this writer for USA Today is and in all probability will always be.

"It would be the first preventive war in U.S. history, the first time the nation has attacked without being struck first. Well if you don't include Vietnam, WWI (Conditionally), Somalia, Yugoslavia, Panama, Grenada and more...

Bay of Pigs???? Certainly not. No American troops went ashore in Cuba. The American air cover was withdrawn by JFK, at the last minute, dooming the operation.

I thought the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War was also "pre-emptive".
Israel knocked out the Egyptian Air Force by surprise, etc..
To: xzins
Well, in Grenada the rebels did take American Students hostage.
In Panama, Panamanian militia did shoot a US Serviceman.
Mexico Remember the Alamo!

Spanish American War/Cuba
Panama
Kosovo/Serbia etc...
Haiti
Greneda
and this stupid person fails to realize this is realy a continuation of the first Gulf War which never ended as Iraq has broken every negotiated end to the first war's armistice and the UN and the EU and the Arab League, and Clinton all failed to take action other than words.
