The US ultimatum dilutes the importance of the UN in a way similar to what happened in the late 1930s with the League of Nations..... Good thing for the US, and the world. The US can form another, more-informal long-term coalition of democratic nations of goodwill (i.e., no France!).

China's new Premier Wen Jiabao insisted on a political solution for the crisis in Iraq That's interesting but didn't the Chinese government produce videos celebrating 9/11? I think a lot of these nations who claim to want to work through the UN aren't real interested in the security of others especially when it comes to us.

Diplo solution is the oxymoron for means of blackmail, payments and, if not, appeasement.

China needed diplomacy, as we now see the entire UN Security Council sold military weapons to Iraq.

If China thinks it can restrain the US through G7 inclusion, they better think long and hard about that.
It isn't hard to locate and purchase products not made in China if one creates a demand for them.
