Bush Tosses Away Air War Script (Saddam Located)

DOHA (Reuters) - President Bush threw away the script and timetable for war on Iraq on Thursday when U.S. intelligence came up with one of its most long-sought after and elusive prizes: the location of President Saddam Hussein.

It began a day, or maybe even two, ahead of schedule with narrow-focus cruise missile strikes at dawn Baghdad time, surprising analysts who expected a "shock and awe" blitz using more than 3,000 precision-guided bombs and missiles.

If it was Saddam, it was not recent, as in last evening. He looked far different than in his interview with Dan Rather, as well as other recent video.

Saddam is not Osama bin Laden. He has appeared on TV and spoken on TV every day before 18 million people for thirty years. He sometimes uses lookalikes in public appearances as decoys for security purposes -- that is all. There is no way that the guy on the tape was a lookalike. That's nonsense.

"Shock & awe" really corresponds to slamming Saddam and his inner circle into full fuhrerbunker/gotterdammerung mode from the git-go. That is a very risky strategy.

The author seems to be clueless about the difference between a strategic orders and tactical orders. It is resonable that not everybody in the press understand military matters, but it is pathetic for them to try and fake it.
