After dropping off Mrs. DFU at the airport for a visit with our lonely daughter on Whidbey Island (her husband is on the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT), I stopped by the mini mart at the Texaco gas station to get a cup of coffee.
I was wearing a sweatshirt with an eagle and the words "God Bless America" as well as my Roosevelt ball cap. The nitwit young kid at the register informed that there was a demonstration on Indian Hill Blvd. yesterday of about 200 anti-war goofballs (my word). He approved and for some reason thought I would want to hear that good news.
I asked him if he believed in the slogan "No blood for oil." His response was that, yes, it was about oil. Fortunately for the young nitwit, there was not a crowd in the store, just another employee. So I thought, what the heck, some education is needed here. I guess I still have the teacher in me after spending my first five years out of college teaching to pay off my student loan, and then teaching real estate law, finance, and economics at the college level for 10 years.
For two minutes the twirp got a tongue lashing. He was informed that if it were about oil, we would take over Mexico (he was Hispanic). If it were about oil, we would have taken over Kuwait in the first Gulf War. If it were about oil, we would have marched to Baghdad 12 years ago and just taken their oil. If it were about oil, we would simply lift the sanctions on Iraq. The best thing for those in the oil business is the free flow of oil. Uncertainty in any business is the worst news for business.
I concluded that my son-in-law was over there fighting for the right of very foolish and uninformed people to embarrass themselves shouting inane slogans in the streets. I hope they appreciate that because of him and his shipmates, they are able to freely make jackasses out of themselves.
(He had no response. I guess it was shock and awe.)
Now, how much is this coffee?

Most anit-war people are jut apart of the culture. The culture they cannot explain, just practice.

Way to go, Doug! Way to go! Even if there had been a crowd around, I believe you would have spoken your mind, probably with the approval of those around you (those who weren't in a huge hurry to get their coffee, that is). Prayers for those men and women who serve. Prayers for your son-in-law and daughter.

"FOOLISH KID AT TEXACO NOW UNDERSTANDS “NO BLOOD FOR OIL”I find it ironic that this kid would be advocating this kind of a position while being gainfully employed by Texaco, an oil company. Seems to me that if he really believed in this that he would seek employment in an alternative fuel company. Oops wait, not a whole lot of those is there.

And he is imployed by Texaco....

But is IS (err,
was) about blood for oil...
Iraqis would continue to blees at Saddam's hands, and the French would give them cover via the UN in exchange for sweet oil deals.

Aha...the light finally dawns on me. I presume that because of the embargo, we are purchasing little if anything from Iraq. Therefore, we are getting little if any oil from them. So, the people who say we are going to war with Iraq with oil have to explain away the embargo, right?
