Bomber crews are safe. This is meant to send the Iraqis screaming. They're getting notice, then the buffs will drop mile-long chains of 500 lb bombs, and blow everything all to hell.Then we'll announce the next wave of buffs....
Which is peachy, because if I know my Air Force, we're going to do the same thing with the Buffs that we tried to do with B-17's in Russia. 8th Air Force tried taking off from Britain and landing in Western Russia. They would stay for a day, reload, and drop another load on the Reich on their way back to England.
Here, I suspect that all we will do is flyover, drop mile long sticks of JDAM on some hapless Guardia and fly on to Diego Garcia. Upon landing in Diego, we'll reload and fly over Baghdad, where we will drop mile long sticks of JDAM on Mr. Hussein's neighborhood....
