B52S TO HIT WITHIN HOUR

A wave of B-52 bombers is set to hit Iraq within the hour, according to reports.

Eleven of the giant warplanes took off from RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, this morning.

The plane has been in service with the United States Air Force since 1955.

It established its fearful reputation with carpet bombing raids during the Vietnam War.

More recently, it has seen service in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Yugoslavia.

The B-52's could be going to Afghanistan to provide air support our our mission to root out al-Qaida.

Just a thought...

I see these strikes directed against known enemy positions and barracks.

I do not see a shock and awe attack against Bagdad. In fact, I am beginning to detest the phrase.

The reason I say this, is that command and control seems to be limited, so what is the point. Secondly, we do not wish to spook the civilian population, so all this will be done with great care.

I think "shock and awe," was psy ops.

Well, you know, wirestripper, at the end of the day, the use of the phrase "shock and awe" 24/7 by the media suggests a lack of gravitas on their part...

Yes, in retrospect it has become that. however, it was in the trick bag to be used if Iraq had generated a stiff resistance.

So far, they have not and seem to be totally shocked and awed already.

So, do we fly over Turkey, or not?

If we do, we run the risk of them getting really, really mad at us, and maybe they'll throw spears at our B-52s.
