Four US soldiers killed in central Iraq - Sky TV
LONDON, March 22 (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were killed on Saturday in central Iraq, according to a reporter from Britain's Sky TV who was travelling with them.
Journalist Colin Brazier said the four reconnaissance scouts were ambushed while driving Humvee jeeps at the head of the column.
"Rocket-propelled grenades were fired, one at each Humvee, (they) killed both sets of occupants," he said in a brief live report on TV.

It's a damned shamed that these news operations are so quick to report the deaths of American soldiers. It almost seems like they're a little over-anxious to see if it is true that the loss of American lives will curb our will to battle on to liberate Iraq and buttress the so-called "peaceniks" that complain louder about the election of 2000 than they do about the despot in Iraq that has been murdering his own people by the tens of thousands.

All humanity is of one Author, and is one volume; when one dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated; God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but Gods hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another.

It was interesting monitoring Sky News the other night when the chopper went down killing 8 Brits. They were very reluctant to report the British deaths and handled it quite differently and with great sensitivity.
It makes a difference which country is reporting.

"Ambush" sounds like terrorists, not soldiers.
I suspect our people have more to fear from the radical Islamists inside of Iraq (you know, the ones that Daschle, Pelosi, et al claim aren't there) than they do from the Iraqi military.

This is so sad.
I knew that this campaign would not be as easy as Desert Storm. There are many Iraqi soldiers who are part and parcel of carrying out the will of Saddam or his evil henchmen. (Not to mention Al Qeada reinforcements who will kill just to satisfy their hatred and love of violence.) There are Iraqis willing to take out as many of the Coalition Forces as they can, just to avoid being captured, tried and hung for the crimes of this evil regime. Some of these same soldiers know that their days are numbered and hate losing their power and privileges. These are the dangerous ones because it would mean their humiliation and/or death at the hands of their own people or commanders should they surrender.
I am still not convinced that Saddamn is dead or wounded like so many here have come to believe. I pray that these animals have the common sense not to unleash WMD in a final vengeful farewell to their loss of prestige...
Be strong, but be wary.

I know we have all at one time or another said a prayer for our troops over there fighting for this country but if i may I would like to ask that every freeper out there take a few minutes each day & pray for the troops. With this grave news of 4 more of our own losing their lives defending ours I think it is only right we pray for their souls.
This war could still get very hard on our troops & they need our prayers now more then ever.
God Bless those we have lost, American/British/Or Otherwise. May they have a swift & safe victory.

Not a flame, but "ambush" can also mean the "element of surprise" when it comes to combat. I would hope that our troops are doing the same thing to optimize strategy.
The only difference is that since we have honorable, professional soldiers, we give the enemy the opportunity to surrender when possible. Judging by the news reports, it appears that many Iraqi soldiers are taking advantage of that opportunity!
