THE SPITIT OF RICK RESCORLA IS RIDING WITH THE 7th CAV TODAY!

Read about this WTC and American Hero here: The Bravest Man I Ever Knew

Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus:

Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail
From Garryowen in glory.

We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.

Chorus

Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory.
Chorus

Garry Owen was the unofficial marching song of the Seventh Cavalry. Gen. Custer reportedly heard the song among his Irish troop and liked it. The tune was then played so often the 7th became tied to it

Garry Owen was the unofficial marching song of the Seventh Cavalry. Gen. Custer reportedly heard the song among his Irish troop and liked it. The tune was then played so often the 7th became tied to it.

The tune is first documented as Auld Bessy in 1788. It was later (1800) in the opera Harlequin Amulet (the Majic of Mona). About that time it was attributed to "Jackson of Cork" by a book of Country Dances by William Campbell. It also appeared in part two (1802) of Nathaniel Gow's four volume Complete Repository of the Original Scotch Slow Tunes.

Thomas Moore also wrote a set of lyrics to the tune The Daughters of Erin.

Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus:

Chorus
Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail

We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.

Chorus

Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory.
Chorus

I don't see a problem with sandstorms.
Sandstorms won't do much to tanks or Bradleys.
Hmmvw's, though, might have some trouble.
The column will end up in disarray due to limited vis, and the humvees might get run down by tanks, but that's part of teh job.
It's a risk that soldiers take.
It's a risk I'd take if I was still in uniform.

I thought this was the case. I was thrown off with a post showing a CNN freeze frame that has the 1st Cav division patch superimposed. Thanks for clearing this up.

You could tell by the video that the vehicles (regardless of which channel one watched) were going 35-45 miles per hour. They were hauling BUTT! Now, do the math: Baghada was only about 350 miles from the Kuwaiti border. I know some of these units swung far out into the desert, but they should be ON TOP of Baghdad by now at that clip.

Cavalry, from the same root word that forms the French word "cheval" for horse.

Calvary is a hill in Jerusalem.

They were saying that this would be the plan all along. It makes sense considering that most of the Iraqi army either won't fight without specific orders (because of their command structure) or won't fight at all (because most Iraqis hate Saddam even more than we do).

And Calvary is the Latinisation of Golgotha, calvaria being the Latin for "skull".

Yup. And word is that when he left Fort Riley on his final mission, he said "Don't change a thing until I get back."
