Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom will leave early Thursday morning for Washington, for his first trip abroad as Israel's foreign minister.
Shalom is slated to address the annual AIPAC convention in Washington, in place of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Sharon was originally slated to address the conference, but cancelled because of the war in Iraq.
During his visit, Shalom is scheduled to meet US Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Congressional leaders, and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
