The officials would not state the precise location of the airfield nor give the number of troops involved.
Perhaps because Reuters has spent this last week giving aid and comfort to the enemy? Nah. ;-)

BLESS YOU FOR POSTING THIS ARTICLE!!!
It was so good I called Mrs. Wasp in to read it to her. Our hearts swelled with pride, then burst with pride in the last few paragraphs. I'm bookmarkin this thread, not because of the crummy rooters article, but because of the well done Knight-Ridder journalism!!!
That's what I call an em-bedded WAR CORRESPONDENT!!!

Oh man that's brilliant- 4th ID into the north (at least some of the division)
If these gomers keep heading out in convoys on open roads without any air cover (and we know they don't have any) we will continue to oblige their wishes of meeting allah and the 72 virgins per KIA.
No rush to enter Baghdad until we are ready. Armor from the north, armor from the south, armor from the west, and armor from the southeast ! Airpower 24/7 !

Good. CNN hasn't heard of them either, otherwise they would have given the enemy a "heads up".
Last night I was in Private Messages with someone else here. This is what I told them. Things dont add up. Things that have been reported.
We have heard just about nothing from the NW or W Iraq
For 2 weeks they were unloading and forward positioning equipment in Turkey.
The Turkey parliament said they would not allow us to use their country to either launch a Northern Front or permit the transition of our troops. (notice they didnt say anything about the equipment)
Last week in 1 day they started moving the ships from Turkey . (How did they recall and load that equipment in 1 day?)
For some reason they took 2 airbases in western Iraq.
Either yesterday or the day before they were reporting a air drop on a base behind enemy lines.
We have at least 2 highly mobile unit out there some where, a detachment of the 82nd and the 101st.
The 4th is being flown to the area from the states as I type.
They are saying it will still be 2 weeks before the ships arrive in the Gulf to start unloading the equipment for the 4th.
Could the Equipment that was forward positioned be setting either in Turkey or the Turkey occupied Iraq sections awaiting the troops to man it?

In reference to Operation Junction City, initially it was considered a combat jump, and the participants wore a bronze star on their wings. Within 3 months it was determined this jump was not under combat conditions and the star was withdrawn.
