How do you clear the way for armored tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles by seizing an airfield? I'm no military expert, but this doesn't seem to make sense - unless it's for air support for said vehicles Seize the airfield and fly the equipment in on heavy transports?

Exactly.
Airfields are good "landing zones" for airborne drops.
