The II Marine Expeditionary Force is now believe to be located in Jordan.

Probably not now.

There were reports of troops going into Jordan (and SA) after the Turkey debacle.

However, I don't think they're in Jordan anymore. ;-)

With a strength in excess of 47,000 Marines and Sailors, II MEF is representative of the largest and most powerful Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). II MEF is comprised of four basic components: (1) II MEF Command Element containing personnel and equipment necessary for effective planning and execution of operations; (2) a ground combat element - the 2d Marine Division; (3) aviation combat element - the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing; and (4) a combat service support element - the 2d Force Service Support Group.

I remember hearing that Jordan had closed off a large part of their country. Without looking at a map, wouldn't this allow us to offload II MEF in Isreal and drive through Isreal, Jordan and on to Bugdead ? I know that we had USMC MPS ships parked in the Med, and they could have flown the Marines over to grab their gear and go.

Globalsecurity is a very reliable source, I hope their are right about this. Two thirds of the USMC...Those rock chuckers are about to learn the hard way that our God IS God !

Maybe 2 days ago they were. Probably getting ready to knock on Ar Ramadi's door now.

How reliable is this source? Doesn't surprise me if it is a genuine report, because having re-watched the Schwartzkopf "Gulf War Briefing," he was positively gloating that the idiot media bought the entire deception---and in fact, counted on deceiving the media as a way to deceive the Iraqis. I'd be surprised if that isn't the case here, too.

left hook part II.

I wonder how much the generals were grinning inside while the doomsayers were complaining down south.

The anvil is already in theater. Here comes the hammer.

And Saddam's nuggets are right in between.

Ouch, that's gonna hurt...

I have believed from the beginning there is some kind of Western front. Maybe it's just the 101st keeping a cork on the Baghdad bottle. But it seems there's a huge risk of leaving the entire north and west of Baghdad in the hands of the 101st. Maybe we believe we can contain it with lethal airpower, but I still believe there are stronger infantry powers to the West we aren't really aware of. Also, once in a while I pick up on the British armored piercing to the northwest along the Iranian border more or less. But not much is said about this prong.

There's more going on than meets the eye.

Re: The II Marine Expeditionary Force is now believe to be located in Jordan.

If this is true in this day and age, it would be the best kept secret since D-Day.

We've apparently owned two of the three airfields (H1, H2, or H3) in western Irag for a week. What do you think that they have been doing with them, setting up golf courses?

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but don't you think that the sealift neede for an entire MEF might have been noticed unloading in Haifa and the vehicles rollloing across northern Israel to Jordan?

My own purely amateur slant is to connect some Marine movement with the 173rd taking an airfield near Mosul. Airlifting two MEUs from the Med, say Cyprus to Mosul would be doable. As they come with their own air in cobras and harriers two MEUs combined with the paras and spec ops could form a formidable striking force from the north, and could be deployed with some sped.

They are perfectly positioned to lean on Syria too if necessary. Don't forget that Syria is controlled by the Bathists, just like Iraq.

I have some concerns over this. Are 11,000 Marines enough to take over Jordan? Will we underestimate the resistance? Why not get Bin Laden first and worry about Jordan later? Are we sure this is okay with France?
