Albuquerque radio reports a neighborhood where someone stole the American flags from homes last night.
Clearly the losers in America and Iraq resort to low tactics.
The mayor in the New Jersey town prohibits a small, tasteful decoration in support of our troops in time of war.
Yet in Skokie the Nazis marched through the largely Jewish neighborhood--the bias of the courts and ACLU being such.

I agree with that. I guess it makes me a commie or some other anti American. Or not.No it doesn't, but people hang signs, papers, and what not on public property all the time, why didn't he ban that too? This guy just wanted to be a dick. I hope the citizens of this town don't stand for this...but than again they did elect him.

OK, the fact that the mayor AND the Councis are all Democrats and do not support the war. Same conclusion after adding the Council.

Patriotism has reached a sad state when it becomes "subversive"...
Wrote a letter, thanks.

"Where would you draw a line if you started allowing the use of public property to exhibit whatever cause anyone wanted?" Tyler said. "Suppose someone wants to tie pink ribbons, or black flags, or a Confederate flag or a Nazi flag on public property?" Ah, yes - a swastika and a yellow ribbon are pretty much the same thing.
"Tie a yellow ribbon round the old crematorium! It's been three long years, want some Zyklon B?"
The Second Civil War draws ever closer because of jerks like Tyler.

I'd bet this mayor wouldn't have a problem with the display of the Iraqi flag.

That's why we have laws. And that's the point. "The more money you got, the more justice you can buy."
That about sums it up. ;-)

Young men and women are giving their lives for freedom in a foreign land and this town run by traitors spits on them and their families and friends!!
These lowlife scum should be thrown out of office ASAP! How can these Saddam lovers restrict free speech like that?

Shouldn't, you know, the public have access to and use of property they purportedly own? LOL! I supposedly "own" my house and land, but the fine print tells me clearly that I'm just renting from the state government.
And if you disagree with their "interpretation", guys in ninja suits with MP-5s bought with your money will show up to persuade you otherwise...

This isn't about displays of opinion in public, it's about putting up permanent (semi permanent, nobody ever takes this stuff down) signs and leaving them there. Let them take em home with them when they leave.
And protesting is one thing, disrupting other's rights is another, that's why they arrest those who do it.

So, just to understand your viewpoint - if the lady put up the ribbons each day as she came to work and took them down as she left, that works?
I thought the mayor's disagreement was with the opinion being expressed on public property. If that is the case I think he has a weaker case.
I think your "permanent displays" approach is the better case, but at the bottom it is denying this because of somebody else's misdeeds in the past. It seems to me that accomodation could be reached - "X point in time, if they are still up, then there is a fine."

So, just to understand your viewpoint - if the lady put up the ribbons each day as she came to work and took them down as she left, that works? It works for me and it is my suggestion, which isn't to say that it carries any special weight, nor should it.
I thought the mayor's disagreement was with the opinion being expressed on public property.
It probably was. I don't support him.
If that is the case I think he has a weaker case.
Not to mention he is a jerk. But even a fool can stumble onto the correct answer from time to time.

My whole point is based on the theory that these things can be misused. If anyone can put up anything they want, what will prevent 20' x 20' signs on government property advocating any damn thing they want. Those supporting this patriotic display wouldn't stay quit very long if the sign urged their children to try homosexuality.
It's called reductio ad absurdum. It serves to make a valid point by demonstrating that any policy can go to it's logical conclusion when abused.
