Support for troops back before Board
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a special meeting March 27 to consider a resolution of support for men and women serving in the United States armed forces in Iraq.
The wording of the resolution, submitted for adoption by Chairman Scott K.York (I-At Large), is similar to a motion tabled by the Board during their March 17 business meeting. In a written statement York said he was confident that the new motion would be endorsed by the Board.
“I have nothing but the greatest respect for the men and women of our armed forces who are putting their lives on the line to protect our freedoms,” York said. “This resolution appropriately recognizes the sacrifices they are making for our country and recognizes as well the burden their loved ones are enduring during their absence. I am confident that with the responses I have received from Board members that this resolution will pass.”
The March 17 resolution, brought forward by Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), was set aside after Chuck Harris (D-Broad Run) said Delgaudio had equated the words “Republican” and “patriot” as he introduced the motion. Jim Burton (I-Mercer) objected to language in the Delgaudio resolution, which he said implied an endorsement of President Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.
Harris and Burton said they did not agree with the decision for military action in Iraq, which Harris said “is a Bush-Cheney war as much as it is an Iraqi war.”
In a written statement March 25 Harris, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, said he fully supports the armed forces and would “serve proudly” if recalled to active duty.
The Board set aside the March 17 resolution with Burton, Harris, Bill Bogard (I-Sugarland Run), Sally Kurtz (I-Catoctin), Eleanore Towe (D-Blue Ridge), and Mark Herring (D-Leesburg) voting to table the resolution. Delgaudio, York and Drew Hiatt (R-Dulles) voted against tabling the motion.
The special meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room at the County Government Center in Leesburg. The resolution of support is the only item on the meeting agenda.

Lots of strange stuff connected with the place. The "Academy" wanted to have a private airport (dunno if they got it), and also had to seek permission for a tunnel to be dug for power cabling. A ground cable, ok, but so much cabling that it would require a tunnel??
They also offered the community the "carrot" that a number of Americans would get study places at no cost.
Loudoun is also the place where an American microbiologist (one of many) was killed in a bizarre fashion, allegedly by his own daughter in company with "other youths".
I'd like to see these paid poloticians get back to work and stop wasting our tax dollars on issues over which they have no control.
They would be better served to go stand on a street corner individually and support their views from that vantage point.
Back to work people. You aren't the center of the universe.
