The only downside I have seen is that mayors, like Willie Brown of SF, are demanding the feds pay for the anti-war protestor's damage, jail time, food, police protection, etc. Like the feds were responsible.

It's people like Willie who do these protests, and now he wants somebody else to pay. I read an article in SF Chron that the DA was planning to fine the organizations for the bills the city was stuck with - looks like Willie put the squash to that. He couldn't have his left-wing organizations paying for all that fun; better to say "it's Bush's fault" because he started the war.
