According to today's copy of my local waste of newsprint there've been over 60 confirmed cases in the US. Anyone know if that's true? I thought only suspected cases so far.

Can there be confirmed cases before the microorganism is definitively identified?

CDC says 85 suspected cases as of today. I don't see any reference at the CDC to a distintion between suspected cases and confirmed cases. For latest counts in the U.S. go here:

C-Span is showing a CDC news conference right now. They are counting suspected cases in the total. Only one person has been ventilated at this point.

Heard on NPR this morning that there is no "test" for SARS. Suspected cases are defined as someone having flu like symptoms and recent contact with someone from China/Hong Kong.
