April 3, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - The FBI issued a frightening intelligence bulletin yesterday, warning field agents to be alert for terrorists trying to make chemical weapons such as ricin.

The warning came as military intelligence officials gathered evidence in terrorist camps in northeastern Iraq of attempts to produce ricin and other chemical and biological weapons.

While I agree on the seriousness of this warning, I can't help but chuckle (a little) at the statement: "It said deadly weapons can be made using 'common household items' such as yeast, infant formula, sugar, water and Epsom salts."

Note that there is no suggestion of a hidden capability to build handguns from these ingredients. Gun-grabbers would be disappointed!
