There was a women in the US that they suspected of have SARS. She was traveling by train and moving around in the public. They could not stop her because SARS was not on the list at that time.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson described how the authority could have helped several days ago, when a woman arriving on a flight from China showed symptoms but would not see a doctor or go into isolation. The woman went on to board a train and become so ill she had to seek medical treatment anyway. She has since recovered."We didn't have any way to stop her," Thompson said in Saturday's editions of The Washington Post.

I bought a puppy recently from a woman in Washington state. Her husband came down with what they think is SARS, and he's been in the hospital for a week. He's not doing any better, but he's not doing any worse either.
