Artillery strikes on Live Feeds
Posted on 04/04/2003 1:44:20 PM PST by konaice
Various live feeds such as this one mms://lv-msnbc.msnbc.com/msnbc2 are showing lots of small flashes at this minute. These are obviously not very big weapons, probably not bombs.
The guy just came out and turned the camera away from the main action. I'm beginning to wonder who is in control of those cameras.

Those are some interesting flashes. Strangely quiet though!!!

"Strangely Quiet"
Start timing from a group of flashes, you will hear
the sounds several seconds afterwards. I spoze you
could do the old lightning count to figure the distance...
One second = 1 mile approximately.

Not a good evening to be a Republican Guard soldier, evidently...
...for if you were, it is sure to be your last.
Most of the blasts seem to be quite distant from the camera...LONG pause from flash to sound...I estimate 15-20 seconds (5-6 miles?)

Hans Blix says they're just lightning flashes...

By counting the seconds between the flash and the sound you can judge the distance to the target. - the ones on the right seem to be about 2.5 Mi away and the ones on the left about 3 miles.
Anyone know what lies there?

CBS Baghdad Cam sounds like a party in Glendale, CA.
To: paulk
I think it is pointed west...in which case we are "clearing the area" around Baghdad International Airport....
looking to be ready for business soon...

No, 5 Seconds = 1 mile approximately. Oh, is that what the rule is??? We never get lightning here, too many close mountains. In any event it now loi=ks like the target is burning, and perhaps cooking off amo because there is steady light comeing from the impact area.

I'm beginning to wonder who is in control of those cameras. I've been wondering that from Day 1. Only reason the Iraqis would keep these cams up is because they are using them (somehow) for command and control.

This camera is from the top of the Rasheed Hotel in Baghdad, just west of the Tigris river near the middle of the city.

1 sec = 1 mile?
If it is 100F (529R) out there, the speed of sound is 1024 Ft/s or .19 M/s. That would be 1 mile every 5 seconds.
