In a dramatic show of force, U.S. forces smashed into the heart of the Iraqi capital this morning and seized two of Saddam's palaces. After the raid, some soldiers took a breather and tested out a few of the royal cushions. Meanwhile, for Iraqi troops, Robert Collier reports there is a growing sense of desperation.

Right after the conference (which ended abruptly for unexplained reasons), Greg Kelley of Fox interviewed the commander at the Palace. The Commander said he was listening to a cell phone that was carrying the press conference, because he was hoping to hear the spokesman say they were surrendering. When Kelley asked him what he thought of what the Iraqi was saying, the Commander said he had forces surrounding the Information Ministry a few blocks away, and was going to have to go across the street and have a talk with Baghdad Bob.

Greg Kelley left the palace shortly after, and I was hoping I would wake up this morning to another press conference with the Commander holding Baghdad Bob by the scruff of the neck. It hasn't happened yet, but I look forward to it.
