[history]
But if all goes according to plan there will be appearances by French celebrities, toasts made with French wine, and a celebration of the nation that many Americans have vilified for its opposition to the war on Iraq.
Call it a backlash against the backlash. Paul Glover, known throughout Ithaca for activism on any number of traditionally left-wing causes, is calling for Ithaca to host a "FrenchFest" April 30 on the Ithaca Commons.

Does this qualify as a "target of opportunity"?
Well, at least a good "Support Your Troops Rally" opportunity.

I agree with you on the
freedom fries, etc.
Actually, I drink a moderate amount of wine. I find the screw on tops to be easier to fit into my refrigerator and I hate the taste of cork floating around in my glass. Give me a good New York chablis anytime!

I have some sympathy with these guys. I'm not in favor of celebrating the French stance on Iraq, but there's no reason to vilify everything French. It was a good gag for a while but it's worn very thin.

I'm no big fan of the Freedom fries, etc., but to then actively SALUTE France for its weaselly ways, along with their kissing up to homocide bombers...well, that's what makes this beyond the pale.

This will go over like a pregnant polevaulter.

I'd put the Rieslings from the Finger Lakes--particularly Dr. Konstantin Frank and Hermann J. Wiemer--up against those from anywhere else.

I think we should rename them in honor of the ties between Saddam and Chirac. Instead of freedom fries we should call them "Dicktaters".

It is such an enjoyment to come home each day and read about Ithaca's reputation throughout the states. It makes me feel so warm inside!
