Captured Iraqi Colonel asks "How long have they been lying like this?

But things are changing and, as the days pass, minds are changing too.

A captured Iraqi colonel being held in one of the hangars listened in astonishment as his information minister praised Republican Guard soldiers for recapturing the airport.

He looked at his captors and, as he realised that what he had heard was palpably untrue, his eye filled with tears. Turning to a translator, he asked: "How long have they been lying like this?"

The article is mostly about Saddam's luxurious palaces, so I just excerpted the more interesting last couple paragraphs.

Turning to a translator, he asked: "How long have they been lying like this?"

Since about the 8th Century AD. But it's only when their lips move. Why?

Interesting statement. What did he think they were saying? What did he think about what they were doing, that the world didn't care, didn't know, or accepted what the regime was doing?

Damn...almost enough to make you feel sorry for these guys. Half of them probably have their wife and kids held hostage by fayadeen somewhere, told they will be executed if they don't fight. Certainly the case for conscripts, maybe some republican guard as well seeing as how they all seemed to cut tail and run.

Only the martyr brigade from Eygpt, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, etc. actually seem to want to fight along with fayadeen.

But let the martyrs come and run their technicals straight at our tanks and bradleys...as the general, USMC, said, "we'll kill em like the fools they are" :)

Maybe a better question is: When was the last time they told the truth? If ever.

I think it was about 2000 years early than that, i.e., sometime around when Abraham begat Ishmael. (Did I say that out loud?)

Freepers, don't you just dream of the day your liberal friends wake up and ask the same question ?

I'd be willing to bet most of the fayadeen, or what ever the hell you call them, are comprimised mostly of the aforementioned.

It's wonderful that the colonel finally saw the truth.

Kitsch and gaudy, it was a monument to poor taste and brash self-promotion.

It the photos I've seen of Saddam's palaces, that was what I was thinking. With all that money, this was his idea of class?!
