"In its' first mobilization of forces to a potential combat zone since the Vietnam War, the Coast Guard is sending roughly 1400 personnel and eight cutters to the Persian Gulf.

There are several sources. This is one and it was at the end of January. Their function is to prevent incidents such as the Cole.

DAMN - Will getting this thread ready I "almost" forgot the Air Force (Army bias showing again...) - then I DO forget the CG - DAMN.

Okay - I'll rectify my slight in the future!
