Multiple U.S. intelligence sources saw Saddam Hussein enter a building in Baghdad on Monday and not emerge before four 1-ton Air Force bombs destroyed it, government officials said yesterday.

One official said some analysts believe the multiple eyewitness accounts suggest the Iraqi dictator is dead. The penetrating bombs reduced the building near the popular al Saa restaurant to rubble.

Considering how many buildings in Baghdad are bombed out, I think it is interesting that the Iraqis are using a front end loader to excavate a restaurant in a residential neighborhood. If Saddam were not in that building, I doubt an expensive front end loader would be used there when there are so many other important government sites that need its services.

I think it is interesting that the Iraqis are using a front end loader to excavate .... Saddam

If the 8,000 lbs from the B1-b didn't off him, I'd say the front end loader will!

Col. Swan said that to make the mission work someone had to be on the ground in Baghdad giving the building's coordinates.

How poetic, Col. "Swan." Yep, Soddom's dead allright.

This still bothers me. Look at the damage that those 4 bombs caused. I read on another thread that the blast zone of those suckers is a few hundred yards.

If we had intel assets close enough to ID Sadman Insane on his way in, and those same assets say he never left before the bombs hit.

That means either:

They had an excellent safe place to hide

They could run very fast

They have a huge pair of brass ones!

or

We are now hiring new assets

I didn't know about the Delta commando until this report. That makes a difference, IMHO, because now we know the CIA didn't rely solely on Iraqi intelligence assets to do the spotting for them. An American soldier, if I'm reading this report correctly, personally witnessed Saddam's entrance into the house that was struck.
