FULL METAL GLOAT: The mainstream media blew it in Iraq -- big time

FULL METAL GLOAT

The mainstream media blew it in Iraq -- big time

By Joel C. Rosenberg, national correspondent, WORLD magazine (www.worldmag.com) (WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2003) -- Take that Peter Arnett! Take that Jacque Chirac! That that all you nay-sayers in the mainstream media!

Just last week, many in the media were saying the Bush administration's plans to liberate Iraq had failed.

Today, Iraqis are cheeing Americans in the streets of Baghdad, and how beautiful are the images of freedom being beamed from an Arab capital.

I just got off the phone with Tim Graham of the Media Research Center. I asked him to assemble as quickly as he could examples of the nay-saying that now looks so pathetic. He and his team are now hard at work doing just that.

Here's an early sample:

Last week, Newsweek gave Vice President Cheney a down arrow: "Tells Meet the Press just before war, 'We will be greeted as liberators.' An arrogant blunder for the ages."

Newsweek gave President Bush a "down" arrow, saying: "Steadfast, but his war cluelessly flings open the gates of hell, making any sort of victory Pyrrhic."

Newsweek also gave Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld a "down" arrow, saying: "Taking fire from TV retired generals for flawed war plan. And how did you miss the fedayeen?"

What a difference a week makes.

These are the images that are being broadcast all over the world.

The images of Arab Muslims thanking President Bush.

Waving the American flag.

Cheering in the streets.

Praising God -- and us -- for setting them free.

I wil pay good money for a future book documentating all the stupid things said by journalists, politicians, peace activists and entertainers, before and during this war. I'd also buy a DVD that shows clips of the Iraqis welcoming our troops, accompanied by sound bytes of these Yahoos -- led off by algore saying, "I wouldn't have started this war."

By the way, where is Mike Moore's mouth today?

I watched this morning's toppling of the Saddam statue on CBS, as they also had fascinating and terrifying reports from embedded correspondent Byron Pitts as he and the Marines he was with were under attack in another part of Bagdhad. Anyway, they switched from Byron and Bagdhad to a correspondent in Kuwait, and his disappointment at recent developments was evident. He discounted the celebration of the Iraqi people and the size of the crowd, and implied that the fact that every single Iraqi wasn't in the streets waving the U.S. flag obviously meant they didn't support the ouster of Saddam, and that the coalition troops were in for some serious opposition. Good grief.

Fortunately, they switched back to Byron, who was effusive in his praise for the Marines alongside him.

Yes, the lamestream left wing media blew it. But this time many, many people noticed. It will only make more people look elsewhere for their news.

In other words, the media can't add 2+2. Fox makes attempts to remove the liberal bias and their ratings skyrocket. CNN, ABC and the rest, the NY Times and other liberal print media is obviously left wing cheerleaders and people are tuning them out.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist here to figure this all out. The lamestream media is slitting their own wrist because they simply won't admit, or won't stop their blatant liberal bias.

By the way, where is Mike Moore's mouth today?

Doing what he always does when he can't spin the day's news to fit his agenda: Talking about himself instead.

That's why I kept telling everyone to send them along in their next CARE package. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

I've been slithering surreptuously over to CNN periodically today to see how the vipers in the nation's breast are reacting to today's all-around jubilation.

It's incredible! Every other bit is some gloom and doom prediction about the present and future of Iraq......and I know I don't have to tell anyone here what the left's standard predictions are.

Wolf Blixer is maintaining his usual stone-face with absolutely no hint of the excitement and joy you can see, hear and feel in FOX's anchors.

Blixer's correspondents reporting in to him are playing the same game, wooden-faced or glum.

It's such a downer on this historic day to listen to CNN's talking heads. As far as I'm concerned, may they all roast in the circles of Dante's everlasting inferno.

They seem to have a curious amount of access to American flags. I would think that would be a dangerous item to have in your possession in Iraq before today. I wonder if we brought a supply with us.

Don't be stupid about it. I made a comment on the origin of the flag not on the genuine happiness of the girl waving it or did you think miniature American flags grow on Iraqi trees? This is a psyo-ops brought photo-op? Yes. Was the girl and the crowd behind her willing? Also yes.

mabelkitty got my comment.

By the way--from her burka- the girl is identified as a Shi'ite Muslim-who hate Saddam's Sunni dominated regime. That also helps us gain favor with the 60% of the Iraqi population who are Shi'ite.

All our enthusiasms need to be curbed. A large portion of the population benefitted from Saddam. They are going to struggle over time to get them back. there are at least three rival factions that could be at each other's throats within a month. Time for prayers.
