Last I heard ANWR has a capacity much greater than 6 months, more like 20 years. I happen to live a couple hundred miles south of it.

Does this relate to the "6-months if we use ONLY ANWR oil, vs. 20 years using it the way we most likely would use it" thing? In other words, it's got XXX amount of oil. You can use it all at once, or a little at a time. So the timeframe arguement is really a silly one (comparing apples to oranges), even though I'm the one who started it here tonight. LOL A better thing to investigate / discuss, is the estimated volume of the resource. If it could be agreed that it has XXXX million barrels of oil, then we could argue later about how to "spend" that oil. (Like having $100,000 in the bank. That's 6-months' money to some, and it's 6 years' money to others.)

All the cWanky people

OMG -- that is soooo totally me after a week of sleep deprivation. I'm soooo cWANKY !!

And having the BagCam on loud to hear the background voices, hearing the wind whip on the microphone... makes me feel like Castro must have felt with those acid rock-spewing loud speakers directed on him 24/7 by our Special Forces guys.

Bag says it's only 6 months supply, I'm still waiting on how many barrels he is using to make that computation.

You've seen it by now... but this is how far behind I am on the posts!! Trying to watch Survivor, CSI, Freep, and now an instant message chat with my sister all at once! And chatting with her entails filling her in on all the details from here!!! AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! As if my fingers aren't bloody enough as it is! C'mon Sis, just lurk your-own-damn-self!!

I also remember during the "Energy Crisis" the many reputable scientists who said that all the world's oil resources would be used up by 2012.

Wellllll..... in defense of scientists everywhere...

Any conclusion is based on specific assumptions, which are always stated in the results/conclusions of the report. There can be no doubt that the true statement was more like this:

AT THE CURRENT RATE OF CONSUMPTION, AND AT THE CURRENT RATE OF POPULATION GROWTH.... all the world's oil resources will be used up by 2012.

But that's a boring sound bite for the media, so they report only the alarmist conclusion, not the data on which the conclusion was drawn.

And it is precisely BECAUSE of statements/estimates/findings like this which led to the development of alternative energy technologies. Thus, these very statements, which may be ACCURATE at the time, are later referenced as WRONG because someone took them seriously and changed the CURRENT RATE OF CONSUMPTION by developing more fuel efficient autos, heating/cooling systems, electricity production, etc.

So the scientists who made those statements can't win.

Oy. Ted Danson? Yeah, he's a highly renowned scientist. LOL

Who authored those papers? (rhetorical) Oil oozing out of fissures isn't a statement about the "origin" of oil. Wow. The science-wannabes who make or believe reports like this... don't get me started.

But we can test Saddam's DNA because we have his adopted son. No wait, we have his body double. No wait, we have Baghdad Bob. LOL

I remember when they were telling us in school we were headed for the next ice age.

Really? I guess that was before they decided it was Global Warming, not Ice Age. No wonder we're all confused. Do they know which way the earth rotates?? Are they sure this time? LOL

Well, since "make a claim and don't back it up" left...

A 6 month supply of oil for the U.S. that is used to "pooh pooh" ANWR would be 3.42 Billion barrels of oil.

For crying out loud Dude, I'm soooo sorry I didn't read all these posts fast enough for you, so you have to resort to talking trash about me... is there some reason you can't disagree with a person w/o having to insult them? I suppose you kick the dog when you have a bad day at work, eh?

Now, about your post...

I don't understand your first sentence. Can you please explain it to me? What is the 3.42 Billion barrels of oil?

I follow the math on the rest of the post, but I don't know where the 3.42 Bbl comes from. Thanks.

Paula Zahn Settles Landscaper Suit
Wednesday, 24-Jul-2002 5:14PM Story from The Associated Press
Copyright 2002 by The Associated Press (via ClariNet)

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) -- Paula Zahn and her husband have settled a lawsuit that claimed they failed to pay a landscaper thousands of dollars for work done at their home, the couple's lawyer said Wednesday.

Memrie Lewis sued the CNN news anchor and her husband, Richard Cohen. She accused them of not paying her approximately $108,000 for extensive landscaping at their Greenwich home.

According to documents filed in Stamford Superior Court, she was seeking about $200,000, including interest and compensation.

Bob Dombross, the couple's attorney, said Wednesday's settlement was "considerably less" than $200,000. He said he could not disclose other details.

"We were very close to a settlement for the last couple of weeks, and we reached a settlement today," Dombross said.

Messages left for Lewis and her attorney were not immediately returned Wednesday evening.

Zahn and Cohen's lawyers filed a motion last week arguing that Zahn should not have to give a deposition in the case because she has "celebrity status."

Eric Posmantier, Lewis' Greenwich attorney, filed a motion Tuesday objecting to Zahn's request for a protective order, arguing that her fame should not prevent her from giving a deposition.

In a statement released earlier Wednesday, Cohen said he negotiated and signed the contract. He said that he was overcharged and that his agreement was violated.

"It's unfortunate that it has gone this far," he said. "The only thing I can conclude is that Ms. Lewis is exploiting Paula's public position."

Dombross said Zahn was not involved with the landscape work.

"This was her husband's matter," Dombross said. "I guess this is the price you pay for being a celebrity."

I think he was trying to make the point that only strong Presidents can accomplish great things, vis-a-vis Bush/liberation of Iraq, etc. But the way he was going about it was idiotic. Naming all the things like Berlin Wall falling, winning the Cold War wouldn't have happened if not for RR. Well we certainly can all agree on that, but McCain had already happily praised Bush and his team for their handling of this war. It just seems to me like Sean has got to follow his script to the lettter or he becomes unraveled. I don't like his presentation at all. It makes him look stupid.

"...We all know that Oil cannot be regenerated. It took millions of years to produce it. We cannot "grow" new oil..."

This old belief has come into serious question by petroleum engineers in the last several years.

Cripes. Yes, that's what I meant. Freepers shouldn't let Freepers post when incredibly sleep deprived. I was soooo tired, I couldn't even come up with the words I wanted to use. Is there a 12 Step Program for BagCamAddicts??
