It's a little cliquish and rude to tell people on the public forum they're sending or receiving private mail, and does not cultivate harmony.No, it is a way to let someone know they have FReepmail because most of us don't notice the mail alert when we are busy on threads. It is a polite and helpful thing and a longstanding FR tradition.
