Uh, it wasn't them that put it in the news...it was whatever journalist wrote it. Give these nice folks a break. Somebody probably asked them what their plans were for the day, and they explained.
Nothing at all wrong with donating blood. When I donate, I wear a little tag that says that I donated that day. More than once, it has caused people to ask me about donating blood. A couple have donated after talking to me, since I'm a big booster for blood donations.
Bottom line here is that it's none of your darned business what the Lynches do or say. If they want to say they're donating blood, who the heck are you to call 'em smurfs?

journalist wrote it I'm complaining about the news article, how it was written by the journalist, not what the Lynch's are doing Thursday afternoon.
The Smurfs lived in a commune, much like how many journalists wish the world would be. I'm trying to point out the hard left twist at the end of this article. It doesn't belong there.
