No need to try to explain yourself. These anti war groups are professionals at making us tongue tied. Hence the motion sickness beaversmom just gave me by posting the insane logic.

IF these anti war groups want free speech for their cause, they need to be prepared for the free speech from the opposing cause. Shouting fire in a crowded theater once left the person shouting at risk of being held accountable or challenged for their actions unlike the disinformation from anti war groups. They think they can shout without the accountability of public humiliation for their ignorance and stupidity and reckless harm to others.
The anti war groups are full of the sick feeding the sick, believing only what their delusions and prejudice let them. Some which have tendencies toward negativity, the emotionally depressed that are attracted to negative belief and conflict first, and or also having tendencies toward paranoia and or paranoid delusions. These people can step up to the feeding trough of their propaganda machine daily. These easily influenced people are cheered on by the orchestra of the politically motivated that seek to fuel their own illnesses of competitive lust, discontented hate, and or their selfish "defeat the enemy" agendas.

Oh yeah be sure to include the sociopathic lunatic feeding off the weak just to prove themselves wise or cute or for the cheap thrill of hurting others, "just for giggles" giving one additional ingredient to the anti war group atmosphere. This atmosphere that provokes the insane to action. Someday the action can be something as drastic as an assassination of a public figure seen as the anti-Christ, which is not an uncommon sentiment for anti war group propaganda, or it can be a simple cause and effect frame of mind attitude or mood that spills over into the rest of the world causing various degrees of just sorry worthless unnecessary sludge.

Freedom of speech? Freedom of expression? It's no excuse for ignorance and insanity. But the door swings both ways for free press and special agenda groups.

/rant whew, I feel better

I saw a bunch of FReepers laughing about that photo yesterday. FR should be ashamed of you clods.

It's the kind of thing I would expect from the DU.

The hell it is. It's just as much the right of the paper to publish satire and make their position known as it is of these leftie peaceniks.

And if these people feel "slapped" then it sounds to me like the cartoon scored a direct hit.

They aren't crying because they were slighted in some way, they are crying because they feel guilty.

More seriously, it is a deliberate, flagrant misuse of a free press.

Oh, I get it, Dennis is one of those "free speech" types that does not want points of view he does not agree with free to communicate.

TYPICAL.

Gee, I thought editorial cartoons were a free speech thing too. Everyone knows that these cartoons are not hard news but an expression of someone's opinion. Seems Mr. Rice thinks it is okay for the protesters to express their view, but it's not okay for anyone who disagrees with him.

The cartoon is a backhand across the face to those who are exercising their constitutional, democratic right to free speech. More seriously, it is a deliberate, flagrant misuse of a free press.

LOL! Which is it?

If he can't take a joke, french him.

Yes! a new varistion of a famous four letter word, meaning the same thing. As in "French you, buddy!" I like it!

Obviously, my point was simple: the author of the letter thinks he's been "slapped". I would submit that he doesn't even know the meaning of the word!

Now, that gal with the hickey, she now knows what being slapped is all about!

Huh? How can one misuse a "free" press?

If they were at all interested in honestly asserting their support of the troops while opposing the war they have only two legitimate options: call for Bush's impeachment or demand through protest that elected officials who oppose the war take action. Of course, we know they're not honest.

I need help with developing a checklist to judge whether someone who opposes the war yet claims to support the troops has a history consistent with that claim. Here's how I would start:

1. Have you generally supported or opposed increases in the defense budget? (Please list years)

2. Have you supported or opposed pay and benefit increases for uniformed personnel and retirees?

3. Have you supported or opposed spending on new weapons systems? (name them)

4. Did you support or oppose U.S. Military action in Bosnia?

Any more suggestions?

So a free press is OK for the misbegotten hippies who feel they are much smarter than everyone else, but it's not good enough for the unwashed masses?

Yeah. Right. Here's a quarter. Go call someone who cares...

I think it's a ridiculous point.

If that stupid chick broke the law, she ought to be in jail.

But to just be happy someone is hurt like that and parading the picture around like a trophy is beneath me and it should be beneath you too.

Sounds like the cartoon was right on the money.
These protest weasels want to impugn the Bush Administration through their silly demonstrations (apparently the protest weasels were comfortable with Saddam and his torture chambers, his wood-chipper, his mass-murder gassing of Kurdish villages, his brutal murder on a whim of anybody he didn't trust, including family members, and his fascination with chemical and biological weapons, etc.) but they try to deflect criticism from normal America by claiming that even though they oppose the war, they "support the troops".
That's weasel words no matter how you cut it.
