Re: Looting.

After the LA pro basketball team wins, they burn parts of LA. Same with many other cities where teams win. Comparatively, the Iraqis seem relatively sedate. After all, they were just liberated. It's not like they won the Badgad City Basketball Championship.

I think I understand the mindset too...

1) Under Saddam, anything worth a flip went to Ba'athists. They are taking some of that back. 2) They are poor. There is stuff. They're grabbing it. 3) They have not been living under a system where there was a rule of law. The trouble is when people who weren't guilty get looted and brutalized. I understand the military not wanting to get into clamping down too hard but it DOES need to stop. For one thing we need those government computers back so we can see what's on them. Tapping Kurds to be the police outside the Kurdish territory is probably unworkable. Too many would want to kill them just for being Kurdish. Tapping former cops and army for police has possibilities but you CAN'T put former Ba'athists out there. That's just going to make things worse.
