WASHINGTON - The House on Thursday night endorsed oil drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge, setting up a likely confrontation with the Senate as Congress struggles to produce a comprehensive energy policy.
An attempt to strip a House energy bill of a provision that would allow development of the refuge's oil was turned back by a 228-197 vote. Drilling opponents argued more oil could be saved with higher auto fuel economy requirements than the refuge could produce.

Drilling opponents argued more oil could be saved with higher auto fuel economy requirements than the refuge could produce. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a majority of the oil drilled used to make other products besides gasoline?

Well, lemme see now: 1.) Crude Oil is used to make plastic, so that means without oil the tree-huggers will have to cut their own trees to provide the paper to bag their groceries.
2.) No credit cards of course, unless they can be made out of tree-hugger derived cardboard.
3.) Maybe the tree-huggers will even cut their trees to make cardboard computer housing?
4.) BTW, what IS the miles per gallon for a Greenpeace lib's economy car that is filled with "saved auto fuel?"
For just these four above reasons, it seems that the tree-huggers would be glad to support drilling for oil anywhere. Besides, there are no trees on the ANWR.

After watching Hannity and Combes tonight, I realized why the libs and the dems are so opposed to increasing the USA Domestic Oil Supply, such as drilling on ANWR.
H and C had as their guest none other than the renouned World Energy Expert Rep. Robert S. Kennedy, Junior. Junior has impeccable lib AND dem credentials, plus he received ALL of his formal education in the Oil-Rich Province of the Coastal NE USA.
Junior said that spending money on drilling for oil is wasted, as that only produces dirty Hydrogen, that is, oil used to generate Hydrogen from oil results in dirty Hydrogen.
Junior also said that the only source of clean Hydrogen is to generate Hydrogen from water.
Junior did not specify what made the Hydrogen dirty, but I can see a clear Harvard logic here: Oil is dark and smelly, whereas and water is clear and has no odor. I'm sure that everyone at Harvard took baths and showers using water and not crude oil. That is another point, Oil really is Crude, and thus the tautology is complete.
To bad Junior was not around to give this sage advice to the Germans before they filled up the Hindenburg on its last voyage. I'm certain that had they used clean Hydrogen, we would still be traveling between continents in lighter than air vehicles, and thus have saved virtually all of the Jet fuel we have wasted with our Jet airplanes. "Oh, the humanity -- !"
I for one want MY Hydrogen-powered car of the future to be powered by CLEAN Hydrogen. Afterall, a car exploding upon impact filled with clean, highly explosive Hydrogen will be a lot less damaging to the atmosphere than an exploding car filled with dirty, highly explosive Hydrogen.
Junior will be the next guest on Hannity's radio show. It should make for more expert energy commentary by lib/dem Junior.
