Laughing Bank Teller Foils Would-Be Robber

LITTLE ROCK (Reuters) - Would-be bank robber Julius Kearney just couldn't get any respect, police said on Wednesday.

They said that when he tried to rob a bank in the central Arkansas town of Pine Bluff on Monday, one teller started laughing and told him the bank was fresh out of cash, and another teller made fun of him.

Both tellers also doubted that he had a gun in his pocket as he claimed.

Police were told that Kearney, 23, entered a bank and told a teller to stuff a bag full of money. His other hand was thrust in his pocket to make it seem like he was carrying a gun.

Police said one teller handed him some deposit slips and told him that if he wanted to steal money, he had better first put some money in the bank.

The tellers told police that Kearney then threw down his plastic bag in disgust and walked out of the bank. He was arrested a few minutes later about four blocks away after bank employees called police for help.

"Most everybody was happy. He wasn't," said Sgt. Bob Rawlinson of the Pine Bluff, Arkansas police.

Kearney was arrested on suspicion of attempted bank robbery and could face up to 10 years in jail if convicted.

Arkansas only has small number of votes in the Electoral Collage. If the rest of the country is smarter than Arkansas, how did Clinton manage to get elected even once?
Guess the Joke's on you.

Ross Perot's "volunteers" (sarcasm tag on and off) had a big to do with that sorry fact.

And what fine state are you from Labyrinthos? If you don't have Democrats that display wierd and abberant behavior on a nearly daily basis, I might want to move there!

Please remember, we needed to get rid of our former Governor. We did that, but our method left alot to be desired. And what fine state are you from Labyrinthos? If you don't have Democrats that display weird and aberrant behavior on a nearly daily basis, I might want to move there!

Evidently Arkansans have a natural gift for poetry. Or is that some kind of blues song...

A man can legally beat his wife, but not more than once a month.

LOL! Has anyone successfully used that as a defense in court?

Hey, I'm not the one championing Bill and Hillary's home town state as being so wise as to not be duped -- you are. ;-)

I'm sure you can find many wise Arkansans, but I won't claim to be one of them.

Those tellers were not likely doing the wisest thing, but you have to admit in this situation it worked and made you smile when you read it.

It is rather funny.

If it goes to trial I think the guy will be acquitted. From what I gather the only thing he did was that he said, "put the money in the bag". IMO, that's not a threat. And I doubt his hand in pocket was what the tellers claim as a threat, but the security camera tape will be the best proof of that. I think the guy thought that if he got a teller that's slow enough to think it's a robbery and puts the money in the bag so be it. Granted, the guy was trying to get something that he had no right to and neither did the teller have the right to give him the money.

I'm not clear on this. Was the guy trying to "loot" the bank?

My husband was in the a bank in Kansas City once when some robbers came in. He was doing business at one of the desks in the lobby with a woman in charge. They both went under the desk and she asked my husband if she should hit the alarm and he said yes.

In the meantime one of the tellers was taken to the vault and told to open it. She told the bank robber that she didn't know the code even though she did.

Some guy drove up to the bank window and realized a gun was in his face and hightailed it out of there. That frightened the men and they left without any money.

The funny thing was that after the police got there and questioned the witnesses, my husband couldn't tell the police anything except they had big guns. He didn't know that they were wearing construction hats.
