Back when we didn't have health insurance, had only one income and were pretty doggone poor, we bought our own birth control.

Although I don't understand why your insurance wouldn't cover it - contraceptives are cheaper than prenatal care and a lot cheaper than pregnancy and birth if there are any complications.

Contraceptives have abortive properties. I surely wouldn't want my insurance company subsidizing them.
