From the Dixie Chicks and Martin Sheen to Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, stars who speak out against President Bush and the war in Iraq are seeing repercussions.

"There's a piling on, and we're isolating people. That's just wrong," says Kevin Costner, standing up for "courageous" Bull Durham co-stars Sarandon and Robbins.

But Robbins says, "If we let people like this bully and intimidate through me millions of people who disagree with this president, we are headed into a dark area."

Quitcher whining, already, Tim. Nobody's throwing you in jail, nobody's torturing you or even confiscating all your earthly goods. You're still free to say whatever you want.

We're also free to disagree with you and refuse the product you're selling. No dark area here.

Like I said, they are free to open their mouths and insert foot. After having done so a free society has the right to reject them out of hand, why are they suprised and outraged?

If they use their bully pulpit to degrade our President and nation in a time of war, we have the right and obligation to use our bully pulpit, the wallet, to degrade their career and opinion. Seems fair to me.

No, Mr. Postman, they're experiencing the inevitable backlash that occurs when you tell 80% of Americans that they're a bunch of ignorant, blood-thirsty rednecks.

A Lipton iced tea ad featuring the Dixie Chicks may be in jeopardy — creators are at work on a backup ad idea — as the public continues to react to Natalie Maines' anti-Bush comments four weeks ago. At Thursday night's Country Music Television video awards show, Brett Butler suggested "forgiving" the Dixie Chicks, and the audience booed.

You bet it is in jeopardy! Tea boycotts have had a long history in this country, dating back to before the Revolutionary War.

These are the same people who had no problems with the political correctness movement which sought to stop people from saying the truth.

These Hollywood "stars" take advantage of their celebrity status to preach to the rest of us. What they forget is that we all have free speech but we don't all get free publicity for that speech the way these actors do. That's why they get held accountable for what they say in a way that is different from the rest of us.
But they'd rather cry "victim" now that their speech turns out to cost them after all.

Funny. Costner never said there was anything "wrong" with how Hussein tortured Iraqis...

At the very least they should open their mouths and say something good about their country. Now it will be all about getting Bush and the 2004 election. The more they yell the more people will vote the rats back to the stone age!

They are free to say what they want. The rest of us are free to dislike them for it and act accordingly.

Exactly - they have their freedom of speech and don't want to be criticized for exercising it, but are now trying to criticize us for exericising our freedom of association (or disassociation, as it were).

Notice it's piling on when the Hollywood types are attacked, but it's Free Speech when they do the attacking.

Anyone have email and phone numbers for CBS and ABC so we can voice our contempt for Sarandon and Garofalo?
.
We do still have the right to do so, don't we?

Heck, Sarandon was one of the celebrity members of Stop Dr. Laura. Payback's a bitch, I guess...

'Payback' - oh, is that Sarandon's nickname? Cool, I didn't know that. heh heh

On Friday, Robbins said, "It's clearly a partisan issue."

Yes it is. The Hollyweirdos HATE George Bush and anything he does is anathema to their left wing beliefs.

Therefore they protest everything he does. They are anti-American and do not support our troops.

Frankly, their actions deeply sadden me, let's pile on!

Every bit of it deserved. If my criticism of Bill Clinton cost me a job some years ago...your unwarranted and in-the-wrong context criticism of President Bush DURING A TIME OF WAR should cost you your job. Best wishes in your next career (That's what the Demoncrats told me.).
