Mr. Eason Jordan's admission that CNN had to suppress the news from Baghdad in order to report it brought back memories for me.

In January 1993, I was in Baghdad as a reporter for CNN on a probationary, three-month contract. Previously, I had been a war reporter for CBS News in Vietnam and East Asia and in Central America for ABC News. I had also made three trips to Baghdad for ABC News before the Gulf War.

They were there to help CNN bid for an exclusive interview with Saddam Hussein, timed to coincide with the coming inauguration of President Clinton.

What is this suppose to mean?

I think they got rid of Major Garrett because he was often times too "nice" to the Bush administration. Isn't that sweet? They get rid of reporters for being too "nice" where freedom of the press is real and yet admonish reporters for being too "mean" where the press is STATE OWNED by a murderous despotic regime!

CNN SUCKS BIG TIME!!

Sure wish we'd see more of this in the mainstream press. I don't consider the Washington Times to be mainstream despite what Tom Daschle et al say.

WHAT ABOUT CBS? I think there should be some sort of investigation to find out what CBS promised or did to get its interview with Hussein. Someone needs to ask Dan Rather this.

Quite interesting. Thanks for the ping. Johnson ordering Collins to read the Information Minister's talking points was itself improper, particularly without context.

I'll admit to ignoring the three...I watch local news on those. the clips I saw of Dan were enough to let me know there was no there there. The promises are apparent! The interviews jounalists would crawl over their mother's prone body to get are mostly worthless. It does show physical condition ..dead or alive!

My recollection is that Saddam Hussein was very quick to test Clinton after his (Clinton's) inauguration. The Bush administration had bombed Iraq again just days before Clinton's inauguration.
