SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS, Mexico (AP) --An angry crowd stoned to death an Indian man accused of practicing witchcraft in a southern Mexico town with a long tradition of religious violence.
The man, Domingo Shilon Shilon, was also hacked with machetes Sunday by the crowd in San Juan Chamula, a majority Catholic township on the outskirts of the colonial city of San Cristobal, 460 miles (735 kms) southeast of Mexico City.

I hate to break the news to you, but Cock Fighting was first popular in France (the symbol of France is still "Le Coq Sportif") and then spread throughout Europe and eventually to the western hemisphere. Many of our founding fathers were fond of cockfighting. It was only in the mid to late 19th century that it began to be outlawed in the USA. It is still legal in Louisiana, parts of South Carolina and until last November, in Oklahoma as well. It is not merely a "Mexican" sport. Of course, the bland Anglos of Southern California (to say nothing of the average American suburbanite) lost their fronteir roots a long time ago.
I hope it makes a comeback in this country, but I am not holding my breath. In most cockfights, the intent is not the "fight to the death." You have a series of "falls" similar to wrestling or boxing. Raising sporting cocks is a talent, as even a casual viewer of Seinfeld should know.
Let's not forget the Haitians throughout South Florida who still practice Voudou, which is tolerated by the Catholic Church.
On the other hand, much of Santeria in this country is something of an Anton Levey-like Carnival, perfect for El Show de Cristina. Most of the true Santeros remain in Cuba.
Different strokes for different folks. Maybe you should move to Mexico where you can enjoy yourself. BTW, do you consider "Anglos" bland because we don't embrace cockfighting? I prefer baseball myself.
Cockfights are sick sh*t. Kinda like bull fighting......I can assure you, that kind of sport will never be accepted as a routine, harmless sport in this country.
