When my father had a liquor store, way back when, a long, long, long time ago. one of our cutomers was a group of witches that belonged to a traditional coven, as opposed to Gardnerians. Traditional witches have their "religion" passed down through their parents and apparently can trace their practice in the family quite a few generations.

James Gardner and Englishman in the early 20th century established what is today known as gardnerian witches. It was his idea (wrongfully) that the ancient religion of wicca had become extinct (not so, witches just went underground). Most Gardnerians witches are introduced into wicca with the assumption that what they practice is witchcraft. Most traditional witches remain secretive about their religion and don't go around advertising it.

I got curious about it when I saw one of my customers wearing a pentagram around his neck. That led to my curiosity about modern witchcraft and it was a nice distraction from my Marxist studies at the time. It seems that there is a world stranger than demented leftists out there.

Of course I suspect that Hillary is a Satanist rather than a witch.

Just north of where my sister lives is the city of Asheville, North Carolina, where there have been conflicts between different branched of "Wiccans," to say nothing of conflicts between the Wiccans and Christians. I remember seeing a woman who claimed to be a TRUE witch on the local news who looked like she could be somebody's grandmother. She claimed that her family had been practicing the faith going back to Scotland.
