Top Stories Secret deals alleged between US, Iraqi generals
Moscow, Apr. 14. (PTI): The low level of resistance against the US-led invasion could be because Iraqi generals struck secret deals with Washington, Russia's Ambassador in Iraq, Vladimir TItirenko who returned home from the war-zone said today.
"I am confident that the Iraqi generals entered into secret deal with the Americans to refrain from resistance in exchange for sparing their lives," Titorenko told NTV, explaining why Saddam's crack National Guards did not pose any considerable resistance to the occupation forces and virtually surrendered Baghdad without a fight.
Titorenko, who returned home from Baghdad today via Damascus, told NTV network that it was "most probable" that Saddam and his close associates were killed in one of the bombardments of secret presidential bunkers.
He left Baghdad on April 6 by road and on his way to Damascus his diplomatic convoy was attacked by the US Rangers near the Iraqi capital souring Moscow's already strained relations with Washington.
He had to leave his badly wounded driver in the hospital in Iraqi town of al Fallujah and drive all the way to Iraq's border with Syria with a fractured finger and shrapnel stuck in his shoulder.
Next day Titorenko returned to al Fallujah to evacuate his driver to a Damascus hospital, where he was operated for the second time on his abdomen, wounded by three American bullets.
Meanwhile, the state-run TV showed footage of Russian embassy in Baghdad, which looked intact but for its slightly damaged brass nameplate.

It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that Arabs can't fight.

It is very possible we had deals, tacit or otherwise, with some generals, since we were in direct contact with a lot of them for months prior to the war.

I thought it was rather brilliant to get your enemies to surrender without firing a shot. Didn't Sun Tzu say that?

Note to Russians: The U.S. deal was more appealing, surrender or die.

Where does one begin with this claptrap? Could it be the relative ease with which the Americans decimated those Russian-made tanks and other armored vehicles on their way to Baghdad severely crippled the black market for Ruskie military sales? Could it be that Titorenko's doing some serious CYA for his bosses in Moscow in light of all the stories about aiding the Iraqis with intelligence and equipment to fight the good guys? Could it be the Titorenko's simply taking batting practice this time out in expectation that our folks on the ground are going to find more dirt on the Russians buried within all those bunkers in Mesopotamia? Or could it be all of the above?

I don't know, by French standards the Iraqis put up one hell of a fight. The French are reviewing the Iraqi strategy right now in order to improve their defense strategies.

"I am confident that the Iraqi generals entered into secret deal with the Americans to refrain from resistance in exchange for sparing their lives," Isn't that called "surrender"?

Actually, no. It is saying something, but the Iraqis have set world records in surrender and collapse in both their outings with us. They've blown past benchmarks previously set by WW II Italians, who handily bested the French in this event. The French only hold the Bronze in rapid surrender. They can't even win at that lol.

And the Russians would have preferred more Iraqis died?
Sorry but the average Iraqi didn't sign up to protect Russia, France, Germany, China and Belgium's interests in Iraq.
After Saddam's thugs were "shocked and awed" the smart Iraqi troops beat a hasty retreat.

I was actually unaware that Iraqi's are Arabs. Silly me, I thought that many of them were of different ethnic origin.

There wasn't anything secret about it. We dropped flyers explaining their options (fight and die, surrender and live) all over the place. We emailed them, we phoned them, why is it this so hard to understand? There isn't anything "secret" or "mysterious" about the psyops campaign that we effectively waged. This is just another example of non-American inability to understand how we wage war so effectively.
