Bush reached out to Putin, entrusted him with a chance to put more of the past behind us. Who is to say Bush was fooled, perhaps it was Putin himself who couldn't resist the forces of anti-Americanism, despite his denials of their existence. Russia was quite happy walking down a double-dealing middle, but in a world of you are either with us or against us, look what has been exposed.
