Like mother, like daughter eh? If it were only easy to say we're defined by the sum expression of our genes. Human beings are more than mere beasts ruled by inborn programming. We have free will. Every generation can do better than its parents. So I have hope for the human race, even if some do fall short.

I definitely agree with you. In this case, the mother had not been abused as a child, but she was obviously from an early age a child without much of a conscience. So maybe mutated genetics do play a part. I don't think the little girl would have turned out badly if she'd been kept away from that mother growing up. Nevertheless, it's good she's locked up. She's a danger to society, too.

A philosopher who writes about morals says that everyone is born with a conscience. It's innate to human beings to know right from wrong. But some are born with weaker consciences than others. He says that is why careful parenting is so important, that these children can be taught right from wrong.

But of course, since the '60s, parents have been encouraged to rely not on themselves but on liberal elitist 'experts' who insist that children not be disciplined. We have real problems as a result.
